WICAT ANNOUNCES NEW VERSION OF WRITING COURSE; WICAT WRITING PLUS
PART OF WICAT'S MULTIMEDIA REFERENCE LEARNING DEVELOPMENT PROJECT
OREM, Utah, April 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Wicat Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: WCAT) today announced the release of a new version of its popular writing course. Wicat Writing Plus is a powerful writing course that helps students develop and practice effective writing skills. The course features an integrated, on-line encyclopedia, World Book's Information Finder(TM), and also includes a full-featured word processor, Addison-Wesley's Wordbench(TM).
Wicat Writing Plus provides comprehensive instruction, examples and practice in eight different types of writing, including expressive, informative, persuasive, and biographical. The integrated word processor includes innovative writing templates for each of the writing types to help students learn how to develop pieces to meet specific objectives.
Activities in the course are designed to teach students five key steps in the writing process: pre-writing, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing. A unique on-line writing tutorial is always available to students to help explain each of these five steps.
Wicat Writing Plus is the second course released as part of Wicat's multimedia reference learning development project. Courses developed as part of this project feature on-line reference tools developed by World Book Inc.
Writing Plus features World Book's Information Finder(TM), a CD-ROM version of the company's widely used encyclopedia. The course automatically routes students to Information Finder in research writing assignments, and the encyclopedia is also available as an on- line resource for use at any time. Students can save material from Information Finder into a notepad, which can then be exported for use in Wordbench to complete writing assignments.
Students using Wicat Writing Plus benefit from a powerful, user- friendly writing environment, Wordbench(TM), developed by Addison- Wesley. Wordbench features unique tools such as an outliner, a note taker, a reference tool to build bibliographic information, and a brainstormer that guides students through techniques to start their writing. It also includes a fully integrated spell checker, thesaurus and context sensitive helps.
The original version of this course, Wicat Writing, is still available. This version does not include Information Finder, but does include Wordbench. Research writing activities in this course refer students to appropriate off-line research activities.
Wicat Systems is a world leader in technology-based education and provides products and services to significantly improve learning in schools and industry. Wicat stock is traded in the NASDAQ market under the symbol WCAT.
