It's possible that goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere has made his final start for the Mighty Ducks

Mighty Ducks is a half-hour Disney animated series aired on ABC and The Disney Afternoon in the fall of 1996. Twenty-six episodes total were produced.
.

That might seem odd, given that Giguere has been the team's icon player since its 2003 playoff run, but if Ilya Bryzgalov Ilya Nikolayevich Bryzgalov (Russian: Илья Николаевич Брызгалов) (b.  turns in another strong effort tonight in Game 7, he might supplant Giguere for good.

The pressure tonight is immense. The Ducks face the Calgary Flames The Calgary Flames are a professional hockey team based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada and play out of the Pengrowth Saddledome. They are members of the Northwest Division of the Western Conference of the National Hockey League (NHL). , before a hostile crowd, with the first-round playoff series on the line, and they likely will be led by a rookie goaltender.

Giguere was pulled in favor of Bryzgalov midway through Game 5, which the Ducks lost 3-2, and coach Randy Carlyle Randy Carlyle (born April 19, 1956 in Sudbury, Ontario) is a former hockey defenceman and currently the head coach of the Anaheim Ducks. He was raised in a town called Azilda, just northwest of Sudbury.  stayed with Bryzgalov in Monday's Game 6. Bryzgalov faced only 22 shots but held up well under pressure and helped kill five Calgary power plays in the Ducks' 2-1 victory.

``We just felt, on a whim, that this would be a situation where (Bryzgalov) would get in there and give us an opportunity to win a hockey game,'' Carlyle said. ``That's just the gut feeling gut feeling Intuition, visceral sensation  of the coach.''

Carlyle won't announce tonight's goaltender in advance, which is how he handled Game 6.

Bryzgalov didn't find out until less than an hour before the game that he would be getting the start, although the situation had been part of public debate for the previous two days.

Giguere has one year remaining on a contract that will pay him $4 million next season, which might make him trade bait this summer, considering the impression Bryzgalov has made this season.

Bryzgalov, who turns 26 next month, was drafted by the Ducks in 2000 but had only two games of NHL NHL Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, see there  experience before this season. As Giguere's backup, Bryzgalov appeared in 31 games and had a solid 2.51 goals-against average, compared to Giguere's 2.66.

``It's a really good experience,'' Bryzgalov said. ``It's my first year in the NHL and it's the time to learn something.''

The Ducks will have a decision to make this summer. Bryzgalov made $450,000 this season but will be a restricted free agent, and general manager Brian Burke must determine if Bryzgalov is ready to be an everyday NHL goalie.
