WHO LIKES `SOUTH PARK'S' RAUNCHY HUMOR, AND WHY.

Byline: Fred Shuster Daily News Staff Writer

Fans have watched each episode dozens of times. Yet, ``South Park's'' bottom-of-the-barrel laughs get mulled mull 1

``It's totally the bomb,'' said Van Nuys High School Van Nuys High School (VNHS) established in 1914, is a high school in the Van Nuys area of Los Angeles, California, belonging to the Los Angeles Unified School District: District 2.  senior Kimmy Ray. ``Everybody talks about it the next day. A friend had that first underground (Christmas) show on tape, and we saw it before the regular show went on the air. And I thought it was so cool. It was a lot raunchier, but they toned it down a lot for television.''

Another teen-age ``South Park'' fan, Matthew Mandelberg, says the Comedy Central cartoon series A cartoon series is a set of regularly presented animated television programs created or adapted for television broadcast with a common series title, usually related to one another.  is probably the most popular and talked-about TV show at his school in North Hollywood.

``Some of the humor humor, according to ancient theory, any of four bodily fluids that determined man's health and temperament. Hippocrates postulated that an imbalance among the humors (blood, phlegm, black bile, and yellow bile) resulted in pain and disease, and that good health was  is pretty out there,'' he said. ``But since it's on cable and the Internet, they have less restrictions.''

Still, Mandelberg claims some aspects of ``South Park'' go a little overboard o·ver·board

``One or two jokes are equal opportunity,'' Mandelberg, 14, said. ``But when they really go after someone for religion or color or something like that, I don't find it as funny. Personally, I like `Seinfeld' better.''

Others say animated comedy programs such as ``South Park,'' ``Space Ghost For the Adult Swim comedy, see Space Ghost Coast to Coast

``It's a whole new generation,'' said Moorpark resident Bobby Burns, 22. ``They're pushing the envelope way past what went before. It's the new humor of the times.''

Because ``South Park'' is so heavily marketed - the novelty shop Ahs devotes an entire window, nearly a block long, to the products at its Sherman Oaks store - kids of all ages want to see what the fuss is all about.

Teen fan Ray says she knows of an 8-year-old who is badgering his mom to see ``South Park,'' which is broadcast at 10 p.m. Wednesdays and midnight Sundays.

``The mother isn't letting her kid see it,'' Ray, 18, said. ``Which is good because the show really isn't for kids that age. `The Simpsons' are different. It's more thought-provoking. But there's nothing to think about in `South Park.'

``It's just mindless, sexist, racist, pee-pee, ca-ca humor. It's just lovely.''
