WHERE'S THE BEEF?

When the question is raised, Where's the beef? an Agoura Hills company answers, right at your door.

U.S. Beef sells gourmet frozen beef, chicken and seafood that can be delivered right to the door. It is licensed by the Los Angeles Los Angeles (lôs ăn`jələs, lŏs, ăn`jəlēz'), city (1990 pop. 3,485,398), seat of Los Angeles co., S Calif.; inc. 1850.  County Health Department and specializes in single-sized servings - individually wrapped, frozen and sold in bulk portions, which company Vice President Todd Horowitz said allows for significant savings.

The Agoura Hills office delivered USDA-inspected products to approximately 8,500 customers last year in Los Angeles, Ventura, Santa Barbara Santa Barbara (săn'tə bär`brə, –bərə), city (1990 pop. 85,571), seat of Santa Barbara co., S Calif., on the Pacific Ocean; inc. 1850.  and Kern counties, Horowitz said. The company also has offices in Orange County and San Francisco San Francisco (săn frănsĭs`kō), city (1990 pop. 723,959), coextensive with San Francisco co., W Calif., on the tip of a peninsula between the Pacific Ocean and San Francisco Bay, which are connected by the strait known as the Golden  and last year served 23,000 customers statewide.

Most customers are families - many with two working parents - that tend to stock up with orders that last from six months to a year, he said.

``People are surprised,'' Horowitz said. ``Most people are used to going down to the supermarket. But now that there's a Costco in practically every town, people understand that if you buy food in bulk and store it in your freezer, you'll save money.''
