WHEN YOU WISH UPON A CAR; T.O. AUTO EVENT RAISES FUNDS FOR CHILDREN'S GROUP.

Byline: Kevin F. Sherry Daily News Staff Writer

Surrounded by dream cars, the Make-A-Wish Foundation The Make-A-Wish Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that grants wishes to children (2.5 years to 18 years old) with life-threatening medical conditions.  raised money Sunday to help sick children fulfill their fantasies.

The eighth annual Amgen Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show drew hundreds of classic vehicles to the company's grounds. Muscle cars sat side-by-side with vintage automobiles as festive music filled the air.

Raffles, vendors and a $15 fee to display a vehicle helped raise the money for the foundation, said June Lofton, who along with her husband holds the unique title of ``wish granter.''

``When the foundation gets a call about the wish child, they send us out to interview the child and the family,'' Lofton said.

The most common wishes include trips to Hawaii or Walt Disney World Noun 1. Walt Disney World - a large amusement park established in 1971 to the southwest of Orlando

Butz has since put a few thousand more dollars of work into the car to get it into prime condition. He considers himself lucky to find such a steal.

``It turned out to be the grandson of the original owner,'' Butz said. ``I just came across this one the first day he had it advertised.''

Butz likes the car because it reminds him of the first car he ever purchased, a 1962 Cadillac. After that, the cars he owned became less flashy, he said.

``I always had family cars, the four-door sedans,'' he said.

The Amgen show was the first public display for Butz's Thunderbird, which had its original two-tone colors in Corinthian white and Chesapeake blue.

Across Amgen's grounds, the public inspected and admired cars with wood paneling or pristine engine compartments. Others admired tail fins, hood ornaments and the ubiquitous fuzzy dice Fuzzy dice, known in the British Isles as furry dice or fluffy dice, are an automotive decoration consisting of two oversized plush dice which hang from the rear-view mirror. .
