Virginia Williams and was the first professional repertory ballet company in New England. artistic director Anna-Marie Holmes announced the appointment of Christopher Wheeldon Christopher Wheeldon (born March 22, 1973)[1] is among the most sought-after and critically acclaimed contemporary ballet choreographers in the world.[2] Born in Somerset, England, Wheeldon began training to be a ballet dancer at the age of 8. as principal guest choreographer through the 2002-03 season, with a possible two-year contract extension. He will begin in 2000 with a new work to Vivaldi's The Four Seasons, followed by evening-length works. Wheeldon premiered a new Firebird at Boston in October, and he created Corybantic Ecstasies for the company last season. Wheeldon, a soloist at New York City Ballet New York City Ballet, one of the foremost American dance companies of the 20th cent. It was founded by Lincoln Kirstein and George Balanchine as the Ballet Society in 1946. , has also created works for Columbia's tentatively titled "The Dance Movie" and for NYCB NYCB New York City Ballet NYCB New York Community Bank . Daniel Pelzig, who spent three years as choreographer-in-residence under Bruce Marks's directorship, returned to Boston Ballet in October to revive his ballet The Princess and the Pea. Pelzig is scheduled to create a new work for the company next season. |
