For the British airline, see Air Southwest. Southwest Airlines Co. jet heading for Sacramento lost one of its rear tires upon takeoff Thursday and made an emergency landing at Ontario Airport. No one was hurt on the ground or aboard the Boeing 737-300. Southwest's Flight 253 left the Burbank-Glendale-Pasadena Airport at 1:55 p.m. with 127 passengers and five crew members aboard. The left rear outside tire fell off immediately, rolled and damaged a luggage carrier belt, said Southwest airline spokeswoman Carol Pearson. It was unclear when the pilots knew the tire was missing, but they were able to land safely at 3:20 p.m. at Ontario, Pearson said.
