--College football: Cal State Northridge postponed its home opener Saturday against Southwest Texas State and might reschedule. UCLA UCLA University of California at Los Angeles

, originally scheduled to play host to Arizona State on Saturday, has rescheduled the game for Dec. 1.

The Big 12, Big Sky and Southeastern conferences each announced they will play as scheduled Saturday as long as teams could manage to reach game sites. Already, Nebraska of the Big 12 was forced to postpone its game against Rice to next Thursday.

The Big East and Atlantic Coast joined the Pac-10 in postponing their games. The SEC said it's donating $1 million to a victims' fund.

About three dozen games total so far have been postponed of the 116 scheduled, including two marquee matchups in the state of Florida, No. 13 Washington at No. 1 Miami and No. 10 Georgia Tech at No. 6 Florida State. A third game, No. 8 Tennessee at No. 2 Florida, will be played.

--NFL: No decision was made about Sunday's games, although a consensus among players is building against playing.

 extended its break for a third consecutive day until at least Friday, the longest hiatus since World War I, and commissioner Bud Selig might decide today to prolong the suspension.

Baseball might play World Series games in November for the first time as a result, and Cal Ripken and Tony Gwynn might finish their careers at home.

The California League was among several minor leagues to cancel its postseason outright.

--NHL: The Kings postponed their first exhibition game Saturday against the Mighty Ducks at Staples Center. Once the game is played, the team said all proceeds will be donated to a victims' fund.

--High schools: The Los Angeles City Section postponed all of its football games this week. The Los Angeles Archdiocese ordered its schools not to play this week as well, canceling tonight's widely anticipated matchup between Hart and St. Bonaventure. Only one Southern Section was postponed.

--Boxing: The undisputed middleweight championship fight between Felix Trinidad and Bernard Hopkins set for Saturday at Madison Square Garden Coordinates:

 was postponed. No new date was set.

--Golf: The PGA (1) (Professional Graphics Adapter) An early IBM PC display standard for 3D processing with 640x480x256 resolution. It was not widely used.

 canceled four of its tournaments, including the World Golf Championship in St. Louis.

--Motor sports: NASCAR NASCAR (National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing), organization that sanctions American stock-car races, est. 1948. It held its first race in Daytona Beach, Fla.  canceled Friday's qualifying for the New Hampshire New Hampshire, one of the New England states of the NE United States. It is bordered by Massachusetts (S), Vermont, with the Connecticut R. forming the boundary (W), the Canadian province of Quebec (NW), and Maine and a short strip of the Atlantic Ocean (E).  300 but made no decision concerning the race itself. The Indy Racing League The Indy Racing League, better known as IRL, is the sanctioning body of a predominantly American based open-wheel racing series.

The League consists of two series, the premiere IndyCar Series
 will hold the NASCAR trucks race on Saturday and the Chevy 500 on Sunday, both as scheduled, at Texas Motor Speedway Texas Motor Speedway is a superspeedway located in the northernmost portion of the U.S. city of Fort Worth, Texas -- the portion located in Denton County, Texas. The track layout is very similar to Atlanta Motor Speedway and Lowe's Motor Speedway (formerly Charlotte Motor  in Fort Worth but canceled qualifying.

Irwindale Speedway is planning to race on Saturday.
