LANCASTER - It's known as Home Run Central throughout the California League The California League is a minor league baseball league which operates throughout the state of California. Before 2002, it was classified as a "High-A" league, indicating its status as a Class A league with the highest level of competition within that classification, and the fifth .

However, the Hangar was anything but that Saturday night.

``Our defense made some great plays; it made my job a lot easier,'' Mears said.

The JetHawks tied the game in the bottom of the first when leadoff batter Robert Gandolfo reached on error, stole both second and third, then scored on Juan Silvestre's run-scoring single.

The JetHawks got what proved to be the game-winner in the bottom of the second, when Harvey Hargrove reached on an infield single, stole second and scored Michael Abate's two-out RBI single.

In the top of the sixth, second baseman Willie Bloomquist made an outstanding defensive play, diving seven feet to his right for a ball up the middle and then throwing from his knees to get leadoff batter Alex Peleaz at first.

Hargrove, the JetHawks' center fielder, made several excellent defensive plays as well.

San Bernardino, which led the JetHawks by a half-game in the South Division entering Saturday night's action, trailed High Desert 10-5 in the late innings of their game.

--Matchup: Right-hander Melqui Torres (0-2, 6.87 ERA) will pitch for the JetHawks today against left-hander Jeff Hundley (2-1, 2.52) of Lake Elsinore, which visits Lancaster Municipal Stadium for one game.
