That's artist Beatrice Wood's formula for staying young at heart - and at age 104, she ought to know. Legend has it - and there are many legends surrounding her - that Wood started her career on a dare from Marcel Duchamp. And ``She's So Lovely,'' based on a script by the late independent filmmaker and directed by his son Nick (``Unhook the Stars''), is even more of one. But if you can get past the mannered, slightly surreal tone of this woozy romantic comedy, you'll be rewarded with some of the finest acting of the year. Sean Penn and Robin Wright Penn play two lowlife barflies who aren't conscious of much except their consuming love for each other. There is great pleasure in watching Travolta and Penn spar both verbally and with ingenious body language as they unearth all the humor and pain an absurd romantic triangle can produce. It's not for everybody, but it's nonetheless a lovely sight. ?13- Bob Strauss theater Let the fur fly: Can 50 million people be wrong? Well, sure they can, if you consider that's about the number of Italians who backed Mussolini. It also happens to be the number of people worldwide who've seen Andrew Lloyd Webber's ``Cats'' in the 15 years since it opened on London's West End. And while ``Cats'' would appear to be a far more benign phenomenon than Il Duce, that hasn't deterred the show's most rabid detractors from slamming it at every opportunity. Well, let 'em keep slamming. Fact is, ``Cats'' may be a very profitable franchise, but it also was one of the riskiest ``concept'' musicals ever staged. Setting a popular collection of T.S. Eliot poems to music posed a challenge not many composers would've attempted - let alone pulled off. Like the best of Disney's cartoon classics, ``Cats'' brought a mass audience to a literary work that previously had been swathed in exclusivity of ``high culture.'' Maybe none of that explains why ``Cats'' is back in L.A. at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood. But back it is, with performances at 8 tonight, 2 and 8 p.m. Saturday, and 2 and 7:30 p.m. Sunday. Tickets are $29 to $62.
