In December 1967, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. announced the "Poor People's Campaign In 1968, Martin Luther King Jr. and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference organized the Poor People's Campaign to address issues of economic justice. The campaign culminated in a march on Washington, D.C. demanding economic aid to the poorest communities of the United States. " in which 1,500 people would travel to Washington, D.C., to petition the U.S. government for an "economic bill of rights." Now, a photo exhibition at the University of California The University of California has a combined student body of more than 191,000 students, over 1,340,000 living alumni, and a combined systemwide and campus endowment of just over $7.3 billion (8th largest in the United States).  Berkeley Art Museum (2625 Durant Ave.; 510-642-0808; www.bampfa.berkeley.edu) explores this historic event. "The Mule Train: A Journey of Hope Remembered," which opened January 17, remains on view through March 26. Admission is $6 for adults; children are free. * One of the largest exhibitions of the works of living African American African American Multiculture A person having origins in any of the black racial groups of Africa. See Race.  photographers, "Committed to the Image: Contemporary Black Photographers," is on view at the Brooklyn Museum of Art Brooklyn Museum of Art, museum in the borough of Brooklyn, N.Y.
