Living tribute: When John C. Santistevan was killed by a drunk driver on Jan. 4, 1993, the ripples reached many people.

Just 18, Santistevan was a gifted young artist studying at California State University, Northridge CSUN offers a variety of programs leading to bachelor's degrees in 61 fields and master's degrees in 42 fields. The university has over 150,000 alumni. It's also home to a summer musical theater/theater program known as TADW (TeenAge Drama Workshop) that leads teenagers through an . Following a pair of horizon-expanding trips he took to New Mexico, the Glendale teen had begun to move beyond naturalism, using his paintings to explore his own Spanish, Mexican and American Indian heritage in an increasingly vibrant, expressionistic ex·pres·sion·ism

Santistevan's memory lives on in the fourth annual art show, live auction and fund-raiser dedicated to him, 1 to 7 p.m. Saturday at the City of Burbank Parks and Recreation Department's Creative Arts Center Gallery, 1100 W. Clark Ave., Burbank. In addition to two limited-edition serigraphs by Santistevan, works by 21 other artists will be displayed and sold at the event. Admission is $50 per person. The Doctor is in: As Dr. Demento, disc jockey Barry Hansen is a defender of the novelty song, a genre that includes pop throwaways such as ``Transfusion'' and ``They're Coming to Take Me Away, Ha-Haaa!''

Nationally syndicated since 1974, Demento has kept the music of Spike Jones, Tom Leher and Allan Sherman alive on the airwaves. He is also credited with discovering musical comedian ``Weird Al'' Yankovic.
