Actually, alt-rock sensation Beck Hansen is not only a successful musician but an accomplished visual artist who apparently takes after his grandfather, Al Hansen. The elder Hansen's name belongs in any history of the Fluxus movement and the ``happenings'' of the 1960s. Before his death in 1995, Hansen cranked out paintings, collage and assemblage pieces and also became an avant-garde frontman front·man n. 1. also front man A man who serves as a nominal leader but who lacks real authority. 2. As its title suggests, the new piece takes us on a metaphorical journey, represented by the music of three composers: Stravinsky's ``L'Histoire Du Soldat (The Soldier's Tale)''; three piano pieces by John Cage; and ``Stimmen,'' a work for string symphony by Peteris Vasks, a contemporary Latvian composer. Reviewing ``We Set Out Early'' last fall for The New York Times, critic Anna Kisselgoff described Jones' work as ``startling star·tle v. star·tled, star·tling, star·tles v.tr. 1. Headphones have a strap that rests on top of the head, positioning a pair of speakers over both ears. For listening to music or monitoring live performances and audio tracks, both left and right channels are required. . But don't let that stop you. The disc, ``Head Trip in Every Key,'' is a sonic tour de force, splintering off from the band's trademark fuzztone guitars and jagged vocals to claim new ground without losing any edge. Superdrag did enforce one ground rule when choosing a producer for the record - they wanted to use old-school, nondigital recording technology. They also didn't want to turn their back on the rock 'n' roll rock 'n' roll: see rock music. aspects of their sound. Superdrag opens for Ben Folds Five Ben Folds Five (1993–2000) was a trio formed in Chapel Hill, North Carolina who were a mainstay of piano rock until their breakup in 2000. Much of their work was influenced by jazz, evident in frequent improv-styled passages through bridge and/or ending. on Saturday at the Hollywood Palladium. The foursome's previous album, ``Regretfully re·gret·ful adj. Full of regret; sorrowful or sorry. re·gret ful·ly adv.re·gret Yours'' (1996), took two weeks to complete. Information: (213) 480-3232. - Fred Shuster film Father-son `Game': A dozen years and 11 movies on, Spike Lee continues to grow as an artist and storyteller. ``He Got Game'' is his most compelling character-based movie yet. The fact that it's constructed around the rabid Knicks fan's favorite sport enhances the feeling that care and commitment were lavished on every frame. Denzel Washington is a convict who's furloughed for a week, with the promise that his sentence will be shortened if he can convince his superstar son to attend the governor's alma mater. The talented teen-age hoopster, played remarkably well by Milwaukee Bucks guard Ray Allen, is besieged be·siege tr.v. be·sieged, be·sieg·ing, be·sieg·es 1. To surround with hostile forces. 2. To crowd around; hem in. 3. from all directions by people and colleges that want a piece of him - but the last person he wants to deal with is the man who destroyed his family. The visual flourishes and snappy dialogue we expect from Spike Lee are in full attendance here, along with a remarkable soundtrack that successfully interweaves the diverse music of Aaron Copland and Public Enemy.
