Home of $1 salad: The second Out Take Cafe location brings the "dollar salad" to Pasadena at 1065 Green St.

Introduced in Studio City by the original Out Take, which is frequented by numerous local studio employees, the $1 salad is a small portion of baby bitter lettuces, sometimes called a mesclun mes·clun

A mixture of young leafy greens, often including young lettuces, used as salad.



[Provençal mesclom, mesclumo, mixture, from Vulgar Latin
, with a piquant sesame-flavored dressing, that is served with any entree plate.

Entree plates range in price from $9 for a pretty tasty turkey loaf with mashed potatoes n. pl. 1. Potatoes which have been boiled and mashed to a pulpy consistency, usu. with sparing addition of milk, salt, butter, or other flavoring. It is a popular accompaniment to a meat course [U.S., 1900's], providing bulk and calories to a meal.  and vegetables to $13.50 and $13.95, respectively, for grilled pork chops or roast duckling duckling

A satisfying meal here is the combination of a soup (vegetable wonton or Ukranian borscht, $3.50) and the grilled chicken salad with Asian vegetables ($6.75).

The heartiness of the soup and the intriguing harmony of flavors and textures of the moist chicken mixed with pumpkin, eggplant, carrot and bok choy bok choy

Brassica chinensis, one of two types of Chinese cabbage. It has glossy dark green leaves and thick, crisp white stalks in a loose head. Its yellow-flowering centre is especially prized. See also brassica; mustard family.
 in a nifty soy-based sauce provide a well-rounded meal for lunch or dinner.

One of the better, lighter dishes is the thin noodle fedelini pasta with sweet plum tomatoes and hard ricotta cheese flakes ($6.50).
