WHARTON ELECTED TO FORD BOARD

DEARBORN, Mich., Dec. 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Ford Motor Company (NYSE: F) today elected Dr. Clifton R. Wharton Jr. to its Board of Directors.
"We are delighted and honored to welcome back Dr. Wharton," said Alex Trotman, chairman and chief executive officer. "His experience in education and international economic policy, as well as his prior service on our Board of Directors, are especially valuable to Ford Motor Company."
Wharton was first elected to the board in January 1973 but resigned the position in January 1993 after being appointed deputy secretary of state by President Clinton. He recently resigned his post with the State Department, enabling his return to Ford's board.
An economist, Wharton has had careers in three fields: economic development and foreign policy, higher education and business.
