Byline: Brooke Olson Daily News Staff Writer

Bad weather prevented J.J. from returning home today.

Sea World San Diego San Diego (săn dēā`gō), city (1990 pop. 1,110,549), seat of San Diego co., S Calif., on San Diego Bay; inc. 1850. San Diego includes the unincorporated communities of La Jolla and Spring Valley. Coronado is across the bay.  had planned to release the California gray whale today, until rain and wind moved in.

Chief Petty Officer Dennis Hall Dennis Hall (born February 5, 1971) is one of the United States most decorated athletes. Hall is a 10 time Greco-Roman Wrestling US National Champion, World Champion, and 3 time USA Olympian. This includes a Silver Medal at the 1996 Atlanta.  of the U.S. Coast Guard said J.J.'s release is now slated for Tuesday.

``We wanted to ensure the safety of the animal and the crew taking her to sea,'' Hall said.

The Coast Guard will transport J.J. from San Diego Bay Noun 1. San Diego Bay - a bay of the Pacific in southern California

``We had spotted a pod (of whales) and planned to place her near (it),'' said Jerry Snyder, a Coast Guard chief warrant officer.

But animal experts believe J.J. may have another opportunity to join her kind.

``Whales generally pass the San Diego area between late March and early April,'' said Kevin Robinson, Sea World's senior animal care specialist.

``We're pretty certain we can find another pod.''

J.J. arrived Jan. 11, 1997, at the world-renowned aquatics center after washing ashore on Venice Beach at the tender age of four days.

Weak and near death, the whale had only a slim chance of survival. Sea World caretakers rehabilitated the whale to a healthy 9 tons and 31 feet, but they are uncertain how she will adapt to life at sea.

``It'll be a whole new experience for her,'' Robinson said.
