WFXT-FOX 25 GRANTS FREE RETRANSMISSION CONSENT TO AREA CABLE OPERATORS THROUGH DEC. 7, 1993

BOSTON, Sept. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- WFXT-Fox 25 has granted area cable television operators the option of a 60-day extension to the Oct. 6 deadline for a retransmission agreement. Station officials notified the cable operators of the extension via a letter sent last week.
The extension allows cable television operators, including Continental Cable and Cablevision, to carry WFXT-Fox 25 programming at no charge for an additional 60 days, through Dec. 7, 1993.
According to Gerry Walsh, president and general manager of WFXT-Fox 25, the extension was granted so ongoing negotiations could continue. He expects agreements between the station and cable carriers to be reached within the next 60 days.
Cable television operators have until Oct. 6, 1993 to reach agreeement on must-carry or retransmission rights with broadcast television stations. Under the Federal Communications Commission's ruling, stations could choose free cable television coverage (must- carry) or require a fee from the cable carrier for the right to carry the station's programming (retransmission).
