Byline: Karen Maeshiro Staff Writer

PALMDALE - Westside Union School District trustees approved sending children from the 5,200-home Anaverde master-planned community and two future housing developments to a campus owned by the Palmdale School District The Palmdale School District is a school district that serves a major part of the city of Palmdale, California (USA).

The Palmdale School District was first formed in 1888. Approximately 28,000 students are enrolled in the Palmdale School District.

The Palmdale school now serves as a temporary campus for Palmdale Learning Plaza, which is moving out this summer to a permanent campus near the Antelope Valley Freeway The Antelope Valley Freeway is a freeway in Los Angeles and Kern counties in southern California. It is signed as California State Highway 14 along its length. It connects Greater Los Angeles to the rapidly developing Antelope Valley.  and Avenue R.

``What we are going to do is lease it for the children until we get a school built,'' school board member Gwen Farrell said.

The board at Tuesday's meeting voted to send children from the Anaverde development, which is now under construction, to the Palmdale campus beginning this fall rather than to Cottonwood Elementary and Hillview Middle schools Hillview Middle School is a public middle school in Menlo Park, California, part of the Menlo Park City School District. Westside officials say they are continuing to negotiate with Anaverde's developer for an elementary school elementary school: see school.  to be built, but no agreement has been reached.

Rossall said the Westside district was close to reaching an agreement with the Palmdale district on leasing the site, next to Summerwind School, south of the Antelope Valley Mall The Antelope Valley Mall is an enclosed shopping mall in Palmdale, California.

``We have not yet reached an agreement, but we will,'' Rossall said. ``They are not using the site. Palmdale is calculating out the costs right now.''

Westside will set up the temporary campus as a kindergarten- through eighth-grade school and will use it for one to two years, Rossall said.

The temporary campus will start out with nine classrooms at the beginning of the 2005-06 school year, but Rossall said she anticipates needing 18 classrooms by the end of the year.

About 1,000 homes will be completed in Anaverde by the end of the next school year.

Palmdale officials could not be reached for comment.
