``Regardless of how good we are or how good they are, they're our rival and we don't want to lose to the Green Wall,'' said Westlake junior sweeper Kirsten DiPippo, who helped the Warriors (3-1-4, 1-0-2) record their fifth shutout Not to be confused with Shootout.

``We don't like losing to the Lancers.''

``I just want them to come out ready to play from the beginning and have fun and play their game,'' said Thousand Oaks assistant Amy Poyer, who was filling in for the second straight game for head coach Geoff Raives, who missed the match for personal reasons.

``When they get taken out of their game, they don't play well. If you take away the first half (Wednesday), it was a good game.''

Westlake had struggled with its consistency on offense in ties against Newbury Park and Agoura to open league play. But the Warriors had no such difficulties in the first 25 minutes against Thousand Oaks.

``Our focus lately has been on setting the tone early and taking advantage of our chances,'' Marino said. ``(In past games) we've been creating opportunity after opportunity and coming up empty. But (Wednesday) we put away our chances early and that was the difference.''

Sara Riazi came off the bench to help Westlake create a second wave of offense before halftime, resulting in a well-deserved goal for the freshman in the 24th minute.

Connor delivered a perfectly placed pass in between two Thousand Oaks defenders, allowing Riazi to run on to the ball from the weak side and beat goalkeeper For the close-in weapon system, see .

``(Sara) has made a big impact for us,'' said DiPippo, who remained unbeaten in five career meetings with Thousand Oaks. ``She comes in and she expects to win every ball. Even when we had a 4-0 lead, she didn't let up.''

The three-goal first-half advantage was more than enough for the Warriors' defense. DiPippo, Krystin Shanklin, Becky Witwer and Kelly Adamski limited the Lancers to four shots on goal, one in the first half.

``Our back line has always been there and I always had faith (the scoring) would happen,'' said DiPippo, who has anchored an effort that has allowed only four goals in eight games.

``Everything just clicked. We came out from the beginning and showed that we wanted it really bad.''

``I thought our back line did a great job, but (Michelle) showed how good she is by getting free and creating those chances,'' Marino said. ``But to hold her to only two good opportunities in 80 minutes is a credit to those girls.''

Connor capped the scoring in the 65th minute, receiving a pass from Edwards and taking on a Thousand Oaks defender from 30 yards out before beating a sliding Brain on a shot in the lower right corner.
