WESTIN CONFIRMS SEPARATION FROM MEXICO AFFILIATE; ANNOUNCES OPENING OF LOS CABOS RESORT

SEATTLE, Aug. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- Westin Hotels & Resorts and Hoteles Camino Real of Mexico will end their 33-year affiliation on Aug. 6, 1993, Westin announced today. The separation is amicable and is based upon a desire by both parties to grow independently throughout Mexico.
Hotels that will no longer be associated with Westin as of Aug. 6 include Camino Real, Acapulco Diamante; Camino Real, Cancun; Camino Real, Guadalajara; Camino Real, Mexico City; Las Hadas, Manzanillo; Camino Real, Mazatlan; Camino Real, Puerto Vallarta; Camino Real, Saltillo; Camino Real, San Salvador; and Ambassador, Monterrey.
Westin will continue offering reservations services to the Camino Real, El Paso, Texas, through December 1993. Two Camino Real properties in Guatemala are unaffected by this change and will continue to be affiliated with Westin. They are Camino Real, Guatemala City, and Camino Real, Tikal.
According to Jim Treadway, president of Westin Hotels & Resorts, North America, "Our expansion in Mexico will be with quality properties like those we currently manage in Acapulco, Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, Mexico City and Ixtapa. Our newest resort in Los Cabos is a reflection of this growth strategy and commitment to quality."
The Westin Regina Resort, Los Cabos, strategically located in the Baja, Mexico, peninsula amidst mountains and desert and on the shores of the Sea of Cortes, will open Nov. 19, 1993. It offers a dramatic blending of architecture, culture and scenery.
The resort was designed as a curved structure to complement and contrast with the environment. Bold design and bright yellow, pink and earth tones are used to showcase the hotel and accentuate the panoramic views from each of the 242 guest rooms. A huge opening in the center of the resort structure provides a dramatic contrast between the sea and the sky.
Treadway added, "The caliber of the resort's extensive facilities is superior. In addition to an outstanding guest room product, there will be a fine array of additional amenities including a beach-front restaurant, sports lounge, swim-up bar, fitness center, tennis courts, tropical gardens and conference facilities."
Westin now manages six hotels in Mexico and will add the seventh, The Westin Golf Resort, Cancun, in 1994. The others include Las Brisas in Acapulco; The Westin Resort, Ixtapa; The Westin Regina Resort, Puerto Vallarta; The Westin Regina Resort, Cancun; The Westin Galeria Plaza, Mexico City; and The Westin Regina Resort, Los Cabos.
