The local Elks Lodge barbecue chefs will serve tri-tip or chicken dinner between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. A variety of entertainment features are scheduled that will appeal to spectators and those who want to participate, said co-chairwoman Joan Delman.

Diners can work off surplus calories at the horseshoe court, taking line-dancing lessons from Kathy Bailey or dancing to the music of the Rick Tucker Band. The winners of the horseshoe toss will be awarded complementary dinners at the Home Buffet.

Immediately after dinner, the Groat Brothers will demonstrate movie stunts. Simi Valley dancers in the Clogging Company will also perform.

The dance band will play from 9 p.m. to midnight, with a dance competition for prizes starting at 10 p.m.

The roundup and hoedown is the historical society's 15th western event, Stafford said. Originally known as the Barn Dance, it marked the society's 1982 acquisition of the Wood Ranch barns, which are now in the park.

Also new at the park is a 70-year-old bar from the former Eddie Maier Ranch (now Brandeis Institute), which members are restoring for the cash bar at the Sept. 28 event. It was rescued from storage by Historical Society member John Varble, who also salvaged a 3 foot wide, round stained-glass window.
