WESTERN ARTWORK ON DISPLAY AT PALMDALE PLAYHOUSE GALLERY.

PALMDALE -- Artist Donna Weil's oil paintings and painted wood cutouts of Western animals, cowgirls and Indians are on display in the Palmdale Playhouse Gallery.

The public can talk to her at a reception, 7-9 p.m. Sept. 29. The show will run through Oct. 8.

Weil just finished an unusual project for the city of Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country, : She painted a 50-gallon trash can In the Macintosh, a simulated garbage can used for deleting files and folders. The trash can keeps the files intact in case the user wants to restore them, but can be "emptied" from time to time to save disk space.  with images of a cougar, red-tailed hawk, bear and coyote coyote (kī`ōt, kīō`tē) or prairie wolf, small, swift wolf, Canis latrans, native to W North America. It is found in deserts, prairies, open woodlands, and brush country; it is also called brush wolf. .

Her colorful Western interpretation was chosen from among 80 submissions to become one of 10 trash receptacles that will be installed as part of the city's plan to refurbish downtown Newhall.

Weil's art career began in first grade when her teacher and principal suggested that she receive professional training. She was further inspired by her great-grandfather, who helped settle the Badlands badlands, area of severe erosion, usually found in semiarid climates and characterized by countless gullies, steep ridges, and sparse vegetation. Badland topography is formed on poorly cemented sediments that have few deep-rooted plants because short, heavy showers  of the Dakotas, and her childhood neighbor, Nudie

 the rodeo tailor, who gave her colorful scraps of leather to play with.

``I've always used a lot of color not of the white race; - commonly meaning, esp. in the United States, of negro blood, pure or mixed.

 in all of my paintings most of my life,'' Weil said. ``I like people to look at my paintings and see something totally different, and they usually do.''

Weil's artwork has been displayed in galleries in London, Beverly Hills Beverly Hills, city (1990 pop. 31,971), Los Angeles co., S Calif., completely surrounded by the city of Los Angeles; inc. 1914. The largely residential city is home to many motion-picture and television personalities. , Pavo Real, Lake Hughes, Lancaster and Wrightwood. She has another exhibit planned for San Diego and two paintings will be included in a silent action Saturday at the Lakes and Valleys Art Guild in Lake Hughes.

The auction features local artists' interpretations of their favorite masters. Weil painted her works in the style of Georgia O'Keeffe, a floral artist; and John Nieto, an American Indian painter. For tickets to the auction, call Weil at (661) 724-9264.

All of Weil's artwork on display at the Playhouse will be for sale as well as greeting cards featuring her art.

Regular Playhouse Gallery hours are noon to 4 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Admission is free. The Playhouse is located at 38334 10th St. E.
