NEWHALL - Authentic Western scenes - including the old Melody Ranch and the living room of William S. Hart's Newhall Mansion - provide backdrops for next week's Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  Cowboy Poetry & Music Festival.

Ticket sales are brisk, but most shows haven't sold out, city spokeswoman Gail Ortiz said Thursday.

``We have some of the best Western entertainers in the world coming,'' Ortiz said.

This year's ninth annual festival adds some new features, including a Western fashion show to showcase high-end clothing that will be available for sale. And the Western Walk of Stars Tribute has moved to Melody Ranch Motion Picture Studio.

The festival opens Wednesday and runs through March 24, mainly at the studio, but also at other venues across the Santa Clarita Valley The Santa Clarita Valley is the valley of the Santa Clara River in Southern California. It stretches through Los Angeles County and Ventura County. Its main population center is the city of Santa Clarita. The valley was part of the 48,612-acre (19,672. .

Besides special events, a general admission fee of $10 - $5 for children 3 to 11 - allows guests to tour Melody Ranch and enjoy a day of free entertainment.

While at the historic motion picture studio, formerly owned by cowboy legend Gene Autry, guests can browse the Gear Show for Western merchandise, order up authentic chuck wagon cooking in the Gold Rush Food Court, or visit the Melody Ranch Motion Picture Museum for $5.

The annual Walk of Western Stars Gala Dinner, which honors Western legends of screen and stage, will take place at 7 p.m. March 22 at Melody Ranch. This year's honorees are John Schneider John Schneider is the name of the following unrelated people:

Other venues for the festival are scattered across the Santa Clarita Valley, with events spilling out into Burbank, at the Autry Museum of Western Heritage, and in Fillmore, for the train ride.

Last year's festival attracted nearly 10,000 people and more visitors are expected this year, with several new events added.

Cowboy Couture Fashion Show, 7 p.m. at the Canyon Theatre Guild Theatre Guild

U.S. theatrical society. Founded in New York City in 1918 by Lawrence Langner (1890–1962) and others, the group proposed to produce high-quality, noncommercial plays.
