 WERNER GERSTENBERG APPOINTED PRESIDENT, CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
 OF BOEHRINGER INGELHEIM CORPORATION
 RIDGEFIELD, Conn., Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Mr. Werner Gerstenberg of Stamford has been appointed president and chief executive officer of Boehringer Ingelheim Corporation, according to Louis Fernandez, chairman of the board. In this position, Mr. Gerstenberg will oversee all operations of the companies comprising the U.S. Corporation, including Roxane Laboratories, Inc. of Columbus, Ohio; Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health, Inc. of St. Joseph, Mo.; B. I. Chemicals of Petersburg, Va. and B. I. Bakery Products of Bohemia, N.Y. He will also continue to serve as acting president and chief operating officer of Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc., Ridgefield, the corporation's largest subsidiary.
 Mr. Gerstenberg joined the pharmaceutical subsidiary in Ridgefield as senior vice president, finance and administration, in 1983. In 1985 he assumed the added duties of vice president, finance and administration and treasurer of the entire U.S. Corporation, becoming executive vice president of the corporation on Jan. 1, 1988. In 1990 he was also assigned operating responsibility for the chemicals and bakery products businesses of the corporation, serving as chairman of their boards.
 On June 22, 1992, Mr. Gerstenberg was appointed acting president and CEO of the U.S. Corporation and acting president and chief operating officer of Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc.
 Mr. Gerstenberg entered Boehringer Ingelheim in Germany in 1968, rising to become head of corporate finance. He then served six years in the parent company of the Boehringer Ingelheim Corporation, Pharma- Investment Limited in Canada, prior to joining the United States operations.
 Mr. Gerstenberg, a native of Germany, was graduated from the Ludwig- Maximilains-University of Munich, Germany, with an MBA.
 In November 1990, the president of the Federal Republic of Germany awarded Mr. Gerstenberg the country's Distinguished Service Cross with Ribbon in recognition of his meritorious service to that country.
 Mr. Gerstenberg currently serves on the board of the German Forum in New York City and the German School-New York, located in White Plains. He, his wife, Silke, and their children Felix and Antonia, reside in Stamford, Conn.
