The road used to be an Indian trail, and later a wagon road (a famous part was called Devil's Slide) before the road was paved. is nearing completion after more than a year's effort to replace the old welcome sign that burned down in the 2005 Topanga Fire. The new sign on a knoll just south of the Ronald Reagan Freeway near Rocky Peak Rocky Peak is the name of the 3rd highest point in the Santa Susana Mountains, which overlook both Chatsworth and Simi Valley, in Southern California. The peak, which is 2,714 feet above sea level, sits on the Los Angeles County/Ventura County line. Road will be dedicated in ceremonies at 10 a.m. July 11 at the site where flags will be raised on the two poles that are part of the structure. The new sign will be lighted for viewing day or night. One pole would fly an American flag, and the other could be used for other flags. "It's almost done. We're thrilled," said City Councilwoman Michelle Foster, who chaired the Rotary Club committee that oversaw o·ver·saw v. Past tense of oversee. construction of the new sign. "It's a long time coming. I think the community is going to be very happy with it." The city provided $100,000 toward construction, and the Rotary groups contributed funds to complete the project.
