 NEW YORK, Oct. 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Weil, Gotshal & Manges, one of the


nation's largest law firms, today announced it has named Harris J. Yale to the newly created position of Pro Bono Counsel.
 Working with the Firm's Pro Bono and Management Committees, Mr. Yale will focus on coordinating existing activities throughout the Firm's offices while developing additional programs to provide legal expertise to those in the community who need but are unable to afford legal services.
 Commenting on the new position, Stephen J. Dannhauser, Executive Partner of the Firm, noted, "Our Pro Bono program has involved lawyers of all levels in important and valuable work, including major cases in the areas of AIDS, flag burning, Indian rights, death penalty, sex discrimination, police brutality and political asylum. The Firm has also handled hundreds of matters for various organizations with whom we have had a longstanding relationship, including Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, New York Lawyers for the Public Interest, and Volunteers for Legal Services. The Pro Bono Counsel is the next step in ensuring the Firm's continued commitment to improving the availability of legal services to members of our community who are unable to afford them."
 Currently Of Counsel in the Firm's New York office, Mr. Yale has been at the Firm for more than a decade, and has developed a broad practice focusing on white collar criminal defense, commercial litigation and appellate advocacy. He has extensive experience in counselling, government investigations and litigation in these areas. He is co-author of the chapter "Grand Jury Practice" in Obermaier & Morvillo's "White Collar Crime: Business and Regulatory Offenses," as well as articles on criminal defense tactics. He holds a J.D. degree from Hofstra University School of Law, where he served as an editor on the Law Review, and a B.A. from Cornell University.
