WEEK 2 OFFERS HISTORY LESSON.

Hart High's football team is in danger of losing to an opponent three times in a row for the first time in coach Mike Herrington's 17-year career.

After falling to state power St. Bonaventure Bon·a·ven·ture   also Bon·a·ven·tu·ra , Saint Originally Giovanni di Fidanza. Known as "the Seraphic Doctor." 1217?-1274.

of Ventura in 2003 and 2004, Hart (1-0) looks to break the series losing streak at 7 p.m. Friday at Ventura High.

The only other opponents to defeat Hart twice in a row during Herrington's tenure were Crespi of Encino (1989 and 1990), and Loyola of L.A. (1997 and 1998). Hart, which has not played Crespi since those defeats, broke the Loyola skid with a 26-7 victory in 1999.

Most favor St. Bonaventure (2-0) this week. Besides the advantage of having played an extra game, St. Bonaventure has appeared in six consecutive section championship games - and seven in the past nine years - and has won 83 of its past 86 games, a .965 winning percentage.

In Cal-Hi Sports' preseason state rankings, St. Bonaventure was ninth and Hart was 12th.

After Hart struggled to defeat unheralded Moorpark 7-6, Herrington said he has more important concerns than worrying about the supposed historical impact of losing three in a row to St. Bonaventure.

The first order of business at Hart this week is to work in a new running back because touted sophomore starter Delano Howell is doubtful after spraining his ankle Friday. Robbie Casselberry, who led Hart in rushing and scoring as a junior last season before switching to receiver this year, is slated to start in Howell's place. However, the move opens a spot at receiver, so Hart technically must replace two skill-position starters.

Crouch, a punter Punter

at Crenshaw, had never played on offense or defense until Friday. He had a few rough moments but recovered a blocked field goal attempt and also came through with a key interception late in the fourth quarter.

``It was really my first football game, so I was a little nervous,'' said Crouch, who fumbled away a punt return In American and Canadian football a punt return is one of the punt receiving team's options to respond to a punt. A player (usually a second or third string wide receiver or running back) positioned many yards from the line of scrimmage will attempt to catch or pick up the ball  the first time he touched the ball and later missed an open tackle on a long touchdown run. ``But that interception was the best thing ever - and that's just one of many to come. I can't wait until the next game Friday.''

Crouch said he wanted to do more than punt at Crenshaw but was limited because of disagreements with a head coach Robert Garrett

``The problem at Crenshaw is I wasn't getting the opportunities I thought I should get,'' Crouch said.

Garrett saw things differently.

``Rickie was a very good punter. He just didn't show ambition to do anything else,'' Garrett said. ``I wouldn't say he didn't have opportunities.
