WECC Hires New Manager for Rocky Mountain/Desert Southwest Reliability Center.SALT LAKE CITY -- The Western Electricity Coordinating Council Mr. McElvain has worked in the electric industry for over 20 years and has experience in system planning, operations, project management, engineering and regulatory issues. He has worked for the California Independent System Operator, Navigant Consulting and Salt River Project. He comes to the RDRC from Tri-State Generation and Transmission Association, Inc. "Frank comes to the position with a lot of planning knowledge and experience with advanced applications and tools," said Terry Baker, Chair of the Reliability Coordination Subcommittee. "In addition, he is very familiar with the WECC WECC Western Electricity Coordinating Council WECC Western European Calibration Cooperation WECC Web Enabled Call Center (Cisco) WECC Weapons Enterprise Capability Center committee structure and I think he will be a good addition to the reliability coordination effort in the West." The Rocky Mountain/Desert Southwest Reliability Center is one of three centers overseeing reliability in the Western Interconnection. The centers have authority to direct local system operators to take action to ensure the reliability of the grid as a whole. The two other centers are the California Mexico Reliability Center in Folsom, California, and the Pacific Northwest Security Center in Vancouver, Washington. WECC -- one of the 10 electric reliability councils in North America, encompassing a geographic area equivalent to over half the United States -- is responsible for promoting electric system reliability and providing a forum for coordinating the operating and planning activities of its 169 member organizations. The members, representing all segments of the electric industry, provide electricity to 71 million people in 14 western states, two Canadian provinces, and portions of one Mexican state. |
