Publicly accessible computer network connecting many smaller networks from around the world. It grew out of a U.S. Defense Department program called ARPANET (Advanced Research Projects Agency Network), established in 1969 with connections between computers at the
 Web site unveiled Wednesday.

The new site - lacountypropertytax.com - links to assessed property values and recent neighborhood property sales, and also offers parcel maps (Data West Research Agency definition: see GIS glossary.) The basic drawings (maps) of the land cadastre (ownership boundaries) for all public and private lands. Parcel maps are typically maintained at a variety of scales, and can be either very precise or very general "cartoon maps"  and forms that can be easily downloaded.

The site also explains how to read tax bills and how to contact county offices involved in the assessment and tax process.

The site also contains information about Proposition 58, which provides an exclusion for transfers of properties between parents and children; and Propositions 60 and 90, which provide property tax relief for senior citizens who sell a home and buy one of equal or lesser value.

It also offers information on obtaining copies of current tax bills, deadlines on when taxes are due, what to expect on refunds, delinquent delinquent 1) adj. not paid in full amount or on time. 2) n. short for an underage violator of the law as in juvenile delinquent.

The launch of the Web site came as Auerbach was expected to release today a record $855 billion property assessment roll, up 9.6 percent over the prior year. The report can be viewed at lacountyassessor.com.
