WCIT 2006 Announces Global Impact Program Topics; Conference to Examine Issues in Privacy and Security, Digital Access and Healthcare.

 2006) today announced three main topics that will be addressed during the conference in May: Privacy and Security, Digital Access, and Healthcare. WCIT 2006 will examine how information technology (IT) standards, applications and innovations can be used to enhance effectiveness and efficiency worldwide. In addressing privacy and security, WCIT 2006 will examine how IT contributes to the appropriate balance between personal privacy and national security. The World Congress will attempt to answer questions such as "what separates individual and national rights?" and "how can shared information be kept out of the hands of malefactors?"

WCIT 2006 will also provide a global progress report on digital access for both developed and developing countries. This report will identify ways IT can enable citizens in nations around the world. It will also review how trade, government and industry policy can be changed to enhance global digital access.

Finally, the World Congress will explore how innovations in IT can further benefit the healthcare industry. WCIT 2006 will seek to recommend worldwide standards for IT to share patient information and open up even more possibilities for improving healthcare, such as remote access and delivery, computer assisted diagnosis, and tracking epidemiology epidemiology, field of medicine concerned with the study of epidemics, outbreaks of disease that affect large numbers of people. Epidemiologists, using sophisticated statistical analyses, field investigations, and complex laboratory techniques, investigate the cause  of certain diseases.
