Dear Colleagues and Supporters of Women's Basketball Women's basketball is one of the few games which developed in tandem with men's. It became popular, spreading from the east coast of the United States to the west coast, in large part via women's colleges. :

The most exciting time of year is here again! The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) is honored to present and share the world of women's basketball to fellow coaches and athletic directors Athletic director (commonly, "athletics director") is a position at many American colleges and universities, as well as in larger high schools and middle schools, which oversees the work of the coaches and related staff involved in intercollegiate or interscholastic athletic  at all levels through the pages of Scholastic Coach and Athletic Director.

This year we celebrate our Silver Anniversary, marking the 25th Annual WBCA National Convention in conjunction with the 25th NCAA NCAA

Each year we take this opportunity to recognize the stakeholders Stakeholders

 of women's basketball and to honor those who have made prolific contributions to the game both on and off of the court. We also use this time with our membership to exchange ideas and techniques to enhance the growth of the game.

While it is always beneficial to share the basics of women's basketball, the WBCA National Convention also serves as a time to celebrate the achievements of our membership and supporters by paying tribute to them for their unselfish dedication to the sport through our many prestigious awards. These awards include The State Farm Wade Trophy Wade Trophy is an award presented annually to the best women'scollege basketball player in NCAA Division I. The Wade Trophy, named after the late, three-time national champion, Delta State University coach Lily Margaret Wade.  Player of the Year, the Kodak/WBCA All-America Teams, the WBCA National Coach of the Year Awards, the Josten-Berenson Service Award, the Carol Eckman Award and this year we have partnered with Orbitz to present the Orbitz USA Today USA Today

National U.S. daily general-interest newspaper, the first of its kind. Launched in 1982 by Allen Neuharth, head of the Gannett newspaper chain, it reached a circulation of one million within a year and surpassed two million in the 1990s.

The WBCA National Convention hosts several events, the most popular being the "WBCA Night of All-Stars." Northeastern University Northeastern University, at Boston, Mass.; coeducational; founded 1898 as a program within the Boston YMCA, inc. 1916, university status 1922, fully independent of the YMCA 1948.  is providing the facilities for this year's doubleheader event to be held on Saturday, April 1 at Matthews Arena     [  beginning at 4:30 p.m. (ET). The event features the WBCA High School All-America Game, presented by Nike, followed by the WBCA All-Star Challenge, the final showcase of talent from the best collegiate seniors who are not participating in the NCAA Women's Final Four.

We take great pride in putting together the most enjoyable National Convention possible, but we more importantly commit ourselves to continually serve as the voice of women's basketball. As an association we choose to stay active and involved specifically with issues that affect women's basketball and our membership. We ask that you do the same by getting involved with our partnerships, programs and initiatives.

The WBCA National Convention is one of the most important events in the sport of women's basketball and is held each year in conjunction with the NCAA Women's Final Four! More than 2,000 people will join us in celebrating another great year of women's basketball!

The Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) proudly presents the fourth year of the "WBCA Night of All-Stars" doubleheader event.

The premier event in women's basketball, the "WBCA Night of All-Stars" features the WBCA High School All-America Game, presented by Nike and the WBCA All-Star Challenge.

2003 marked the debut of both games as a doubleheader event in conjunction with the WBCA National Convention and the NCAA[R] Women's Final Four[R].

Basketball fans will get a glimpse of the future stars of women's basketball in one action-packed afternoon. It is a marquee event you will not want to miss!

THIS EVENT IS NCAA--CERTIFIED SO COLLEGE COACHES MAY ATTEND!

The longest running girl's high school all-america game and the first national game presented for girls! Since 1992, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) has organized this prestigious event for the nation's most gifted female high school basketball players.

The WBCA All-Star Challenge is an exhibition game featuring 20 of the top senior college All-Stars of the year who are not participating in the NCAA[R] Women's Final Four[R]. The game has taken place annually since 1998 during the WBCA National Convention and NCAA Women's Final Four. This is a showcase of the WNBA stars to come!

The State Farm Wade Trophy Player of the Year

Presented annually to the best women's basketball player in NCAA Division I. The Wade Trophy, named after the late, legendary three-time national champion, Delta State University History

Kodak/WBCA All-America Teams

The Kodak/WBCA All-America Teams honor the ten best collegiate women's basketball players in the nation. A Kodak/WBCA All-America Team is chosen for each collegiate division: NCAA Divisions I, II, and III, NAIA, and JC/CC.

RUSSELL ATHLETIC/WBCA National Coach of the Year

The RUSSELL ATHLETIC/WBCA National Coach of the Year is presented annually to one coach in each of the collegiate divisions: NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA, and Junior College/Community College as well as High Schoool.

RUSSELL ATHLETIC/WBCA Victory Club

The RUSSELL ATHLETIC/WBCA Victory Club Award is presented to each WBCA member head coach who achieves career wins of 200, 300, 400, 500 or more, in 100 victory increments.

Jostens-Berenson Service Award

The Jostens-Berenson Service Award recognizes an individual who has maintained a professional lifelong commitment to service for and to the game of women's basketball.

The Orbitz Trophy

Orbitz and the WBCA have partnered to award the Coaches Trophy to winners of the USA TODAY ESPN Top 25 Coaches Poll in Divisions I, II, and III as well as the NAIA and JC/CC National Champions.

Nike's So You Want To Be A Coach

Nike's So You Want To Be A Coach is made possible through the NCAA Matching Grants matching grant Academia Non-peer-reviewed funding in which a commercial enterprise, foundation, or philanthropy, federal government, contributes a sum of money that 'matches' a financial contribution made by an institution, university or hospital.  for the Advancement of Minority Women Coaches. For qualification, the potential candidate must be a minority female basketball player who has exhausted her final year of basketball eligibility at a four-year institution by the first day of the workshop OR has graduated within the past year. In addition, the candidate's head coach, who must be an active WBCA member, has to nominate them. This past year, the NCAA also awarded the WBCA with scholarships for participants to use toward their travel and lodging for the workshop.

Betty "Jumpshot" Jaynes has dedicated her life to women's basketball and for over 25 years, she has been a leading figure in the sport of women's basketball. Jaynes served as the Executive Director of the WBCA for 15 years, and on September 1, 1996 was named Chief Executive Officer until her retirement in 2000. Jaynes now serves as a consultant to the WBCA.

NCAA Division II Helps WBCA Celebrate its 25th National Convention!

The NCAA approved funding for sixty (60) Division II coaches to receive funding to be used towards the 25th WBCA National Convention in Boston. These coaches have never attended a WBCA National Convention, and have 3 or less years of coaching experience. This will provide an opportunity for these coaches to experience the networking and professional development for the first time.

Thanks to the NCAA and congratulations to these coaches!

Founded in 1981, the Women's Basketball Coaches Association promotes women's basketball by unifying coaches at all levels to develop a reputable identity for the sport of women's basketball and to foster and promote the development of the game of basketball as an amateur sport for women and girls.

Awards

The WBCA recognizes coaches and players at all levels of girls' and women's basketball through various national awards such as the Kodak/WBCA All-America Team, RUSSELL ATHLETIC/WBCA National Coaches of the Year, RUSSELL ATHLETIC/WBCA Victory Club Awards, Jostens-Berenson Service Award, The State Farm Wade Trophy and the State Farm/WBCA Players of the Year Program and the Orbitz USA TODAY ESPN WBCA Coaches Trophy.

In addition, the WBCA selects the 20 top high school players and 20 senior collegiate players to participate in the WBCA High School All-America Game, presented by Nike and the WBCA All-Star Challenge Game.
