The new company will operate under the trade name, AWES, and will have its own sales, engineering, manufacturing, research and development staff. By year's end, the company will have hired about 30 engineers, production and assembly workers.

"This joint venture will provide Aquafine and WEDECO with new growth avenues, while providing our customers with more cost-effective and environmentally sound water treatment processes," Roberta Veloz, Aquafine's chairwoman and chief executive officer, said in a prepared statement.

The deal represents WEDECO's first venture into the American marketplace.

"This joint venture merges the resources of two worldwide leaders," Werner Klink, WEDECO's president and chief executive officer, said in a prepared statement.

A 10-member team from WEDECO will provide technical assistance for the new company, Murphy said.
