WASHINGTON UTILITIES, TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION RULES ON PUGET POWER REQUESTS

 WASHINGTON UTILITIES, TRANSPORTATION COMMISSION RULES
 ON PUGET POWER REQUESTS
BELLEVUE, Wash., Jan. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- The Washington Utilities and Transportation Commission (WUTC) Tuesday issued two orders: one granting Puget Power's request for rate incentives rewarding investment in energy conservation, and the other denying the company's peion creates the potential for additional revenue of approximately $4 million, if in 1991 the company saved up to 16 average megawatts of energy. Additional incentives will be awarded for conservation in excess of 16 average megawatts, and for achieving certain cost control targets. Figures on total conservation savings in 1991 are not yet available.
The revenues received by the company as a result of the conservation incentives will not affect customers until the period Oct. 1, 1992 through Sept 30, 1993.
Regarding the second order, the company had filed for reconsideration of the Commission's treatment of current tax benefits associated with conservation. Given the company's current increasing investment in conservation, the practical effect of the Commission's treatment of tax benefits will be to lessen the increase in the company's revenues associated with conservation costs in the earlier years of the company's ongoing conservation programs, but raise those revenues in the later years of those programs as new conservation investment declines.
The company is continuing to evaluate the effect of the orders issued by the Commission on Tuesday.
