WASHINGTON STATE NEWS BUREAU: JOHN SAVICH NAMED CHAIR OF VISIT USA WEST COMMITTEE

OLYMPIA, Wash., June 14 /PRNewswire/ -- Washington State Tourism Director John Savich has been named the 1993-94 chair of Visit USA West, a regional marketing organization comprised of, and dedicated to, the promotion of international leisure travel to the states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon and Washington, the Washington State News Bureau said today. The organization's primary marketing focus at present is directed toward the major in-bound markets of the United Kingdom and Germany.
"With the increase in arrivals to SeaTac Airport, Seattle is becoming an increasingly important gateway city to the Northwest," said Savich. "Washington is the one state that has the most to gain as a result of this partnership."
Savich goes on to say, "This type of marketing is the only way we can afford to have any serious presence in international markets."
Visit USA West has developed several international promotional pieces, including maps in eight different languages, a video (in English only) and brochures.
The eight states are also hosting 80 travel agents from the United Kingdom as part of a United States Travel and Tourism Administration Travel Counselor Program. Washington state will host 10 of these travel agents for four days. The agents will participate in a two-day seminar and fam trip.
