WARREN ELEMENTARY STUDENTS TO BURY TIME CAPSULE AT ELIAS BROTHERS HEADQUARTERS

WARREN, Mich., April 27 /PRNewswire/ -- What do fifth-graders think they'll need in the year 2023? Computers, calculators and other high- tech goodies. They also want future historians to know that Bart Simpson T-shirts, rollerblades, skateboards and baseball cards were important ingredients of childhood in 1993.
These and other items will be buried in a large time capsule by students from Westwood Elementary School in Warren on the grounds of the Elias Brothers Big Boy Restaurant (adjacent to Elias Brothers' headquarters) on Thursday, April 29, at 12:30 p.m. The restaurant and headquarters are at 4199 Marcy (off Ryan between 9 and 10 Mile roads) in Warren.
Elias Brothers' executives and Big Boy himself will be on hand as 27 students from Kay Hartman's fifth-grade class fill the time capsule with mementos, personal items, letters to themselves indicating what they hope they will be doing in the future, and items they think they may need in the next century. The time capsule will be exhumed in 30 years.
"I'm very curious to see what else they'll bury," said Tony Michaels, vice president of marketing for Elias Brothers Big Boy Restaurants, Inc.
"Only the greatest imaginations could have envisioned the changes that have taken place since 1963, particularly in the areas of world events and technology. Now these children have the chance to play fortune teller. It's a really fun and challenging way for them to think seriously about their futures and the future of the world."
The 4-foot-long time capsule will be placed inside a 5-foot-long vault that was donated by Wilburt Vault of Detroit. Inch Monument of Pontiac donated a plaque to mark the location and contents of the time capsule.
Michaels said the idea for the time capsule came from the Time Traveler kids' premiums that are currently being given to all children who order a Fun and Food meal at Big Boy restaurants.
Elias Brothers Restaurants, Inc. is one of the largest restaurant systems in the world and the exclusive worldwide franchiser of the 925 Big Boy Restaurants in the U.S., Canada and Japan.
