WARNER CABLE SELECTS C-COR EQUIPMENT FOR ALTOONA, PA., UPGRADE
STATE COLLEGE, Pa., March 5 /PRNewswire/ -- C-COR Electronics, Inc. (NASDAQ: CCBL) today announced an agreement with Warner Cable to provide AM fiber optics and electronics equipment as well as system design services for a system upgrade in Altoona, Pa.
According to the $2 million agreement, C-COR will provide AM fiber optics and RF electronics to upgrade the Altoona system from 300 MHz to 450 MHz. The installation of 7 AM fiber nodes in the Altoona system will allow Warner to consolidate headends and reduce the number of cascades, thereby greatly improving overall system reliability. The project is expected to begin this summer, with completion scheduled for the summer of 1994. Warner's objectives for this project include expanded channel capacity and improved system performance.
According to Craig Thompson, general manager for Warner Altoona, "Our goal in upgrading these systems is to provide an increased number of services to our subscribers as well as improved system reliability. We chose C-COR as the supplier for this project for a number of reasons. C-COR has always been known for its quality and reliability within the cable industry, as well as offering the kind of service we demand. But most importantly, C-COR is a local company with a manufacturing facility close by in Tipton, Pa., and headquarters in State College, Pa. Stated C-COR Chairman, President and CEO, Richard E. Perry, "In selecting C-COR to provide products for their upgrade, Warner Cable made a very community-minded decision. Warner is doing their part to help the economy in this area. At the same time, they're creating a system that will offer improved service and reliability to the community. We're very proud to be a part of this project."
C-COR's system design team and engineering support staff will be working closely with Thompson, and Steve Miller, project manager, to design the upgrade and to coordinate technical training of Warner employees.
Warner Cable's Altoona system serves the city of Altoona, the boroughs of Bellwood, Duncansville, Hollidaysburg, and Allegheny, Antis, Blair, Frankstown, Juniata, Logan and Tyrone townships.
