WARNER BROS.' 'THE BODYGUARD' TAKES AIM AT BOX OFFICE WITH $24,402,567 OPENING WEEKEND

 BURBANK, Calif., Nov. 30 ~PRNewswire~ -- Warner Bros.' romantic thriller "The Bodyguard" took in a sensational $24,402,567 at the box office over Thanksgiving weekend, it was announced by D. Barry Reardon, Warner Bros. president of Domestic Theatrical Distribution. The film, which stars Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston, played in 1,717 theaters and performed well in all markets over the holiday period.
 Among its strongest venues across the country were the Ford City in Chicago with $58,167; the Orpheum in New York with $67,677; the Universal City in Los Angeles with $98,361; the Century in San Jose, Calif., with $85,153; the Criterion in New York with $72,967; the River Oaks in Calumet City, Ill., with $61,474; the Showcase in Hartford, Conn., $45,735; the Cinedome in Orange, Calif., with $57,020; the Century in Sacramento, Calif., with $80,047; and the AMC in Burbank with $67,416.
 "The film is playing beautifully in cities and suburbs throughout the country," commented Reardon. "The romantic star power of Kevin Costner and Whitney Houston has proven itself, and the strong popularity of one of the songs from the movie has also increased its appeal. We look forward to a strong performance from 'The Bodyguard' following this very auspicious debut."
