WAP FORUM APPOINTS SCOTT GOLDMAN AS CEO.

The Wireless Application Protocol (WAP) Forum has appointed Scott Goldman to the newly created position of CEO. A 25-year veteran of the wireless communications industry, Goldman will serve to lead the Forum and the continued development of WAP as the de facto global standard for the mobile Internet.

"Scott's appointment to CEO of the WAP Forum comes at a time when WAP has reached a new level of maturity and global acceptance," said Gregory Williams, board chairman of the WAP Forum. "The Forum is now more than 235 members strong, and we'll look to Scott's broad industry knowledge and experience to help lead our organization in the years ahead. On behalf of the entire Board of Directors and the Forum itself, I'd like to welcome Scott to the WAP team."

Based in Atlanta, Georgia, Goldman will work closely with the WAP Forum board of directors to drive enhancements to the WAP specification based on market requirements, evangelize WAP technology to companies and consumers worldwide, recruit companies to join as members of the WAP Forum and ensure the Forum's efforts are fully coordinated for the benefit of its members and the industry at large.

"I'm excited and honored that the board has appointed me the first CEO of the WAP Forum," said Goldman. "The Forum has already successfully achieved world-class status for WAP. I look forward to guiding the Forum's brand strategy for furthering the global prominence of the WAP technology as the preferred method for Internet communications on wireless devices."

Goldman has recognized experience in the wireless industry, particularly in the convergence areas of wireless technology and the Internet. The Strategis Group, a market research firm, now wholly owns that service which was initiated in 1994.

Previously, Goldman led The Goldman Group, a consulting company that he developed to assist people in the wireless industry with new business launches, such as helping to secure licenses and launching wireless services in eight different countries; developing national service distribution networks in the United States; designing sales and commission plans; and providing expert testimony for wireless carriers, service providers and manufacturers. Goldman has authored many significant wireless industry studies and articles, and has spoken at many major wireless industry conferences since 1982.
