WANT YOUR OWN HOME? YOU'RE NOT ALONE
ORLANDO, Fla., Aug. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- A recent survey revealed that

most families would rather own a home than:
 1. Retire 10 years early
 2. Take a better job
 3. Own two cars
The survey was conducted by Hart-Teeler Research for the Federal National Mortgage Association (Fannie Mae) and involved 1,521 individual interviews. There are a number of reasons for this intense desire to own a home. Seventy-eight percent of families immediately point to the potential investment value of home ownership and the tax advantages. But there's more.
 1. Pride of ownership
 2. Desire for security
 3. Sense of permanence
The survey indicates that homeowners are much more apt to become involved in local community service than renters. And 61 percent of homeowners vote in local elections compared to 33 percent of renters. Interestingly, the more unlikely a person is to have sufficient funds for a down payment and income to qualify for a mortgage loan, the greater the desire for owning a home.
According to Dale Jundt, president-elect of the Florida Association of Realtors, a key ingredient to actually being able to make the purchase is "a specific plan for saving down-payment funds, and knowledge about affordable financing packages."
This survey confirms Jundt's comment: 60 percent of prospective home buyers are unfamiliar with the basic workings of a real estate transaction and "feel uncomfortable with the common language of real estate."
The Florida Association of Realtors, the voice for real estate in Florida, provides programs, services, ongoing education, research and legislative representation to its 70,000 members in 87 local boards/associations throughout Florida.
