WALTERS GETS TO THE HEART OF GOLF SENSATION WOODS : GOOD FOR YOU.

Byline: Marilyn Beck & Stacy Jenel Smith

Barbara Walters Barbara Jill Walters[1] (born September 25, 1929[2]) is an American journalist, writer and media personality who has been a regular fixture on morning television shows (Today and The View), an evening news magazine (20/20  credits foresight as the reason she was able to nab Tiger Woods Editing of this page by unregistered or newly registered users is currently disabled.  for her May 21 ABC ABC

``He's had 230 requests for interviews since he won the Masters. He's turned them all down. We asked to interview him before the Masters - we figured win or lose, he was a star.''

Walters also interviewed Drew Barrymore, David Duchovny, Janeane Garofalo Janeane Garofalo (born September 28 1964) is an American stand-up comedian, actress, political activist, writer and former co-host on Air America Radio's The Majority Report. , Chris O'Donnell and LeAnn Rimes for the special, but she devotes the most air time to Tiger.

``I tried to show a side of him the public doesn't know. He talked about his mother - perhaps for the first time. He calls her his `little mother.' It was she who took him to golf practice while his father worked. He's got a sort of Asian reserve, a dignity, and a little bit of remoteness, and I think that comes from his mother, who, of course, is Thai. There's also a great composure, and I feel part of that comes from being a Buddhist.''

She says that while women throw themselves at Tiger, ``He doesn't have a girlfriend and doesn't even particularly want one now because he's so busy. Yet family is all-important to him, and someday he hopes to have a family of his own.''

Right now, notes Barbara, ``What worries him is the attention he's receiving beyond anything he ever expected. He just can't go and hang out, he has to be careful of everything he says. His father has told him he's going to have to get used to this kind of isolation.''

He also starred in numerous other television series over the years including: S.W. , who, you'll recall, has battled - doctors expect successfully - a rare form of cancer that affects the joints. Urich was among the celebrities who took turns passing out roses to women who've survived breast or ovarian cancer ovarian cancer

An executive with Permanent Charities saw Urich's wife, Heather Menzies Heather Urich (nee Menzies), born December 3, 1949 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, is a Canadian-born actress who moved to California via Florida at the age of 11. Menzies replied, ``I survived ovarian,'' something that will come as a surprise to many people. The official smiled and said, ``Well, get in line.'' And a few minutes later, Urich found himself issuing a rose to his wife.

The Run/Walk raised more than $2 million for the Revlon/UCLA Women's Cancer Research Program - where, incidentally, Dr. Dennis Slamon has identified the gene that makes 30 percent of women who carry it susceptible to breast and ovarian cancer.

Former ``Newhart'' and ``Bosom Buddies'' star Peter Scolari is making a return to series television in the Fox's series ``Cali,'' written and executive-produced by Rusty Cundieff. ``It's like a hip-hop `Dallas,' '' says Cundieff, the writer/director of the films ``Fear of a Black Hat'' and ``Tales From the Hood.'' ``It's an ongoing story done in the style of the old `Soap' series. Peter plays a record-company mogul.''
