 WALLACE W. CREEK ELECTED COMPTROLLER OF GENERAL MOTORS
 DETROIT, June 29 /PRNewswire/ -- The election of Wallace W. Creek as comptroller of General Motors was announced today by Robert C. Stempel, chairman of the GM board of directors. He succeeds John E. Mischi who will be on special assignment pending his retirement Sept. 1.
 In announcing the succession, Stempel recognized that "throughout his career John has undertaken a number of important challenges for us, and made a highly-valued contribution to the organization during his more than 33 years with GM."
 The new comptroller is a 53-year old native of Kankakee, Ill., who worked at GM's Electro-Motive Division in 1959 while an accounting student at the University of Illinois. In ensuing years Creek held supervisory posts at the Pontiac Motor Division and Corporate financial staffs while earning his M.B.A. from Michigan State University.
 In 1977 he was named assistant comptroller at Cadillac, and subsequently served as comptroller and director of finance for GM Espana. Returning to the U.S. he held comptroller posts at Inland Division and the Buick-Oldsmobile-Cadillac group before becoming assistant comptroller of GM in 1988.
 A native Detroiter, Mischi, 59, joined General Motors in 1959 after receiving his B.A. in accounting from Michigan State. He held a variety of financial posts at Cadillac before becoming comptroller of the Delco Moraine Division in 1977. He was named assistant comptroller of GM in 1981, and was promoted to comptroller in 1988.
 The new assignments are effective July 1.
