PALMDALE -- Eighth-graders from Joe Walker Middle School and Sacred Heart School Sacred Heart School may refer to one of these schools: In the United States

Joe Walker eighth-grader Peter DeMarzio won the Chuck Stoll Award trophy and $250 as the student with the best cumulative score over three years of competition that involved solving problems in geometry, algebra algebra, branch of mathematics concerned with operations on sets of numbers or other elements that are often represented by symbols. Algebra is a generalization of arithmetic and gains much of its power from dealing symbolically with elements and operations (such as  and probability, as well as arithmetic.

The Chuck Stoll Award is named for the high school math teacher who started the annual contest to encourage middle school youngsters to take an interest in math.

This year, 753 sixth-, seventh- and eighth-graders from 27 schools participated in team and individual events over three days of competition.

In the eighth-grade competition, Joe Walker school in Quartz Hill finished first and second among large schools. Tropico Middle School in Rosamond took third.

There was a three-way tie for top individual score for eighth-graders from a large school: Emily Brown of New Vista Middle, Daniel Nunez of Park View Middle and Krista Robinson of Cactus School.

In the seventh-grade team competition among large schools, Joe Walker took first and second, while Challenger Middle School placed third. Sacred Heart won first among small schools.

The top individual seventh-grade scorers were Dalton Dalton, city (1990 pop. 21,761), seat of Whitfield co., extreme NW Ga., in the Appalachian valley; inc. 1847. It is a highly industrialized city in a farm area.  Banh of Joe Walker among large schools and Veronica Cruz of St. Mary's among small schools.

Sacred Heart won the sixth-grade team competition among small schools. Amargosa Creek Middle School won the sixth-grade competition among large schools.

The top individual sixth-grade scorers were Anthony Lucero of Amargosa Creek among large schools, and Kimberly Skousen of Branch Elementary at Edwards among small schools.
