WALK TO BENEFIT CANCER RESEARCH.

VALENCIA - The Optimist Clubs will sponsor Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  Valley's first ``Families Walk for Hope'' fund-raiser to benefit children's cancer research.

The event will be held at 10 a.m. May 22 and will begin at Almendra Park, 23420 Alta Madera Drive, Valencia. Registration will be at 8:30 a.m.

A group of Santa Clarita residents created the idea for the walk after one woman's grandchild was diagnosed last spring with Ewing's sarcoma Ewing's sarcoma,

The Walk for Hope will celebrate the tenacity of cancer survivors Cancer survivors are those individuals with cancer of any type, current or past, who are still living. The National Coalition for Cancer Survivorship (NCCS) pioneered the definition of survivor as from the time of diagnosis and for the balance of life, a person diagnosed with  and seek to help find cures through increased funding for research.

The route of the walk will include activities for children and refreshments re·fresh·ment

 will be served. Participants are encouraged to collect pledges with a goal of raising $50 apiece.
