WALK OF HEARTS PLAQUES HONOR 6 VALLEY TEACHERS.

Valley, southern California, U.S. Northwest of central Los Angeles, the valley is bounded by the San Gabriel, Santa Susana, and Santa Monica mountains and the Simi Hills.
 teachers were honored Saturday with permanent sidewalk plaques along Sherman Way for their contributions to education.

About 200 friends, family members and former students turned out for the unveiling of the bronze Walk of Hearts sidewalk plaques - like those for stars along the Hollywood Walk of Fame The Hollywood Walk of Fame is a pavement along Hollywood Boulevard and Vine Street in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California, United States, which is embedded with more than 2,000 five-pointed stars featuring the names of not only human celebrities but fictional characters honored by  - for Enrique Duran, Kathy Holmes, H. ``Education affects all of us,'' said Joe Andrews, Walk of Hearts Foundation president and founder. ``When we have good students, we have a better society. Teachers have a way of influencing society, no matter what profession'' their students choose.

Ten teachers were honored last year with plaques on Sherman Way, including University of California, Los Angeles UCLA comprises the College of Letters and Science (the primary undergraduate college), seven professional schools, and five professional Health Science schools. Since 2001, UCLA has enrolled over 33,000 total students, and that number is steadily rising. , basketball coach John Wooden, who attended Saturday's event. The 2005 honorees' plaques are on the north side of Sherman Way, extending west from Remmet Avenue.

Entertainer Steve Allen, who created ``The Tonight Show'' and died at age 78 in 2000, was honored for his contributions to education with a plaque as a ``Partner in Education.''

Allen's wife, actress Jayne Meadows, 85, of Encino, told the crowd her husband was the first in his family to attend college and owed much of his success to the encouragement and support of teachers.

``Teachers are saints, and I adore you all,'' she said.

The other five teachers honored are:

--Kathy Holmes, 60, Nipomo, who retired from Hart Street Elementary in March, after teaching elementary students since 1968.

--H. Warren King, 81, of Santa Clarita, who has taught photography for more than 50 years, including 31 years at Reseda High School Reseda High School, established in 1955, is located in the Reseda section of Los Angeles, California, United States.

The current principal of Reseda High is Alfredo Tarin. The mascot of Reseda High is the Regent, a lion welding a crown and a scepter.

--Lauren Roedy, 38, of Tarzana, named Westmark School's Teacher of the Year in 2004, where she is an educational therapist working with 12th graders with learning disabilities.

--Paul Trapani, 42, of Simi Valley, who has taught for nearly 20 years, and teaches social studies, U.S. history, economics, government, world history and leadership at John Wooden High School.

--Jacqueline C. Young, 65, of West Hills, who has taught speech and drama for 25 years, including at Hale Middle School and Cleveland High School.

The Walk of Hearts Foundation also presented a $1,000 scholarship to Canoga Park High School graduate Andrea Humphries, 17, of Canoga Park, who plans to attend California State University, Northridge CSUN offers a variety of programs leading to bachelor's degrees in 61 fields and master's degrees in 42 fields. The university has over 150,000 alumni. It's also home to a summer musical theater/theater program known as TADW (TeenAge Drama Workshop) that leads teenagers through an .
