Organizers hoped the 4 1/2-mile walk would raise $15,000, said Friendly Valley Community Church pastor Leon Strand, who coordinated the walk. About 25 percent of that would go to local churches. ``It's part of our responsibility to help when and where we can,'' said Carly Schmid, 14, as she prepared to step off with her mother, Jennifer. ``And a bunch of my friends are here.'' Many students studying for their confirmation at Blessed Kateri Catholic Church participated in the walk, and knocked a couple hours off their service hours requirement. But one of the biggest attractions was Roxy, Judi Coennen's big black Labrador. Many kids came over to pet the dog, as Coennen got ready for the walk. ``I try to do whatever I can, and this is such a small thing, so when I heard about it I said, I'm there.
