WALK FOR DIABETES OCT. 8 RESIDENTS TEAM UP TO RAISE CASH.

VALENCIA -- Residents are taking to the streets once again in Santa Clarita Santa Clarita, city (1990 pop. 110,642), Los Angeles co., S Calif., suburb 30 mi (48 km) NW of downtown Los Angeles, on the Santa Clara River; inc. 1987. Situated in the Santa Clara valley and nearby canyons, Santa Clarita includes the former towns of Canyon Country,  to walk in support of America's Walk for Diabetes.

More than 200,000 people across the nation will join forces to make a difference to someone they know by supporting the American Diabetes Association's premier fundraising event. In Santa Clarita, more than 20,000 people have diabetes.

The Santa Clarita Walk is scheduled for 9 a.m. Oct. 8 beginning near the Valencia Auto Center at Creekside Road and Auto Center Drive. The walk is a 4 1/2-mile route that winds through Bridgeport Park and along San Francisquito Creek The San Francisquito Creek is a creek that flows into San Francisco Bay in California, United States of America. Its headwaters are in the Santa Cruz Mountains above Menlo Park, around 667m (2000 feet) above the Bay. . Rest stops along the path will provide water and snacks.

The day will start with coffee and breakfast. After walkers return, they will be treated to lunch donated by several local restaurants.

The Drop Zone band and Star 98.7 radio will provide music and entertainment. A raffle and silent auction will be held during lunch.

Walkers are encouraged to form teams with friends, family members or co-workers. The goal is for each walker to raise $100, with prizes awarded for those who raise the most money. Aside from raising money, the walk emphasizes fitness, fun, and diabetes prevention and awareness.

There are 5 million Americans who have diabetes and are unaware that they have the disease. Symptoms of diabetes include extreme thirst thirst, sensation indicating the body's need for water. Dry or salty food and dry, dusty air may induce such a sensation by depleting moisture in the mucous membranes of the mouth and throat. , frequent urination urination

About 80 percent of every dollar raised through the walk will directly benefit research, advocacy and public awareness. The American Diabetes Association The American Diabetes Association, or the ADA, is an American health organization providing diabetes research, information and advocacy. Founded in 1940, the American Diabetes Association conducts programs in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, reaching hundreds of  has contributed more than $150 million toward finding a cure.

The association's mission is to prevent and cure diabetes, and to improve the lives of those affected.
