. Last year, he acted as Canyon's strength and conditioning coach but has decided to come back to the sidelines.

``I'm getting out of the doldrums,'' he said.

His presence could provide a spark for the Cowboys, who haven't won a league title since Wade parted. Hart has dominated the lower level, having won three of the last four championships. (Saugus won the other.)

JV and sophomore-level fans who are used to seeing Canyon run the football could be in for a surprise this fall.

`` `Ground Chuck' may change, since we've got some receivers,'' Wade said.

In fact, those receivers, Quentin Palmer, Jim Perry There are different people named Jim Perry:
  • Jim Perry (1935- ), a former Major League Baseball pitcher, brother of Gaylord Perry
  • Jim Perry (1933- ), a game show host in the 1970s and 1980s
  • Jim Perry, a graphics editor for the New York Times.
and Chris Herrera, also can run the football. Expect many short passes out of the backfield.

Nick Fendeis will line up wide and could be a deep threat for quarterback Julio DeLeon. The offensive line is average in size, about 180-190 pounds.

Defensively, Palmer leads a quality group of linebackers, and Fendeis leads the defensive backs.

A look at the other local teams:

Hart: The Indians run a simplified version of the run-and-shoot, so quarterback is a key position, with sophomores Travis Nicol and Ben Marino battling. Running back Jason Autry could develop into another Ted Iacenda - the former star Southern Section player now at USC An abbreviation for U.S. Code.  - if his nagging toe injuries heal, coach Sean O'Brien Sean O'Brien may refer to:
  • Sean O'Brien (professional windsurfer) - based in Australia, competing on the Windsurfing World Tour.
  • Sean O'Brien - human rights lawyer at the Center for Civil and Human Rights at the Notre Dame Law School
 said.

As always, the receiving corps is deep, with Chris Ciccone, Jeff Green Jeff Green may refer to:
  • Jeff Green (NASCAR), NASCAR NEXTEL Cup driver and 2000 Busch Series champion.
  • Jeff Green (basketball), Seattle Supersonics basketball player
  • Jeff Green (editor-in-chief), editor-in-chief for Games for Windows magazine.
, Matt Fredericshean and Ryan Haag. Ciccone and Haag also will start at cornerback, and Green will start at safety.

The offensive line averages about 200 pounds, with Tom Dolinsky (210) and Joe Kusumi (215) anchoring.

On defense, lineman Travis Asmus looks strong, as do linebackers Brandon Montemayor and Brandon Pan.

Saugus: The Wing-T offense returns, and coach George Lopata said he has the quarterback in sophomore David Parker, a quality receiver in Nathan Steele and a running back in Cheyne Flatt, who can catch passes out of the backfield.

The offensive line isn't big, except for 6-2, 250-pound Chris Sandoval. Typical is Corey Pearson, who's 5-11, 190.

Linebackers Greg Fornero and Brett Dramin lead the defense. Lineman Brent Ybarra is 6-1, 200 pounds. The defensive backs have no speed, so Lopata will play them in a zone.
