WACKENHUT'S LARGEST CORRECTIONS CONTRACT RENEWED

CORAL GABLES, Fla., Sept. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Wackenhut Corrections Corporation has been awarded a two-year renewal of a contract with the State of Louisiana Department of Public Safety and Corrections to manage the Allen Correctional Center, near Kinder, La.
The 1,282-bed medium security facility has been operated by Wackenhut Corrections since December 1990, and the new contract extends that period to December 1995. The annual cost to the state for the operation of the facility under the terms of the new contract is expected to be $10.7 million, and includes the employment of over 300 persons.
George C. Zoley, president of Wackenhut Corrections, noted that his organization manages 12 correctional and detention sites in the United States and Australia. He stated that the Allen Correctional Center "is not only the largest of them, but is also among the most progressive since it provides on-site employment industries, and educational and rehabilitative programs for the inmates. We are therefore pleased that the state of Louisiana has placed renewed confidence in our ability to perform this important service."
Dr. Zoley also noted some of the accomplishments of the facility staff during the period of the present contract. "We expanded the capacity of the facility from 610 beds during the first year to its present capacity of 1,282. The staff and all employees worked very hard to achieve accreditation by the American Correctional Association, and successfully attained one of the highest scores ever achieved by any facility in the country. This speaks very highly for the quality of our work force, most of whom were recruited from the surrounding counties of Louisiana in the past three years."
Wackenhut Corrections Corporation is a subsidiary of The Wackenhut Corporation (NYSE: WAK), one of the world's largest companies providing security and security-related services for business, industry, and government agencies.
It is based in Coral Gables, Fla., and was founded in 1954 by George R. Wackenhut, who is currently the chairman of the board and chief executive officer. It has operations at over 100 locations in the United States and in 50 other countries, on six continents.
