WABC-TV WINS THE JULY 1993 SUMMER SWEEPS

    NEW YORK, Aug. 5 /PRNewswire/ -- WABC-TV wins New York's July 1993 ratings race, posting a 6.3 rating/18 share in Nielsen and a 6.1 rating/17 share in Arbitron, Mon-Sun Sign-On to Sign-Off, according to WABC-TV.  WCBS-TV ends the sweep with a 4.4 rating/12 share in Nielsen and a 4.1 rating/12 share in Arbitron, while WNBC-TV finishes with a 4.2 rating/12 share in both services.
    "Eyewitness News This Morning" remains the top-rated news program 6- 7 a.m., delivering a 2.8 rating/23 share in Nielsen and a 2.6 rating/20 share in Arbitron.  This compares to WCBS-TV's "Channel 2 Early News" (1.0 rating/8 share in Nielsen and Arbitron), WNBC-TV's "Today New York 6-7A" (2.1 rating/17 share in Nielsen and 2.4 rating/18 share in Arbitron) and WNYW-TV's "GDNY 1st Edition" (1.1 rating/9 share in Nielsen and 1.3 rating/10 share in Arbitron.)
    At 9 a.m. "Live! with Regis & Kathie Lee" beats its morning talk competitors with a 5.7 rating/24 share in Nielsen and a 5.0 rating/21 share in Arbitron.  WCBS-TV's "Jane Whitney" posts a 3.8 rating/16 share in Nielsen and 3.6 rating/15 share in Arbitron, while WNBC-TV's "Jerry Springer" at 11 a.m. shows a 2.5 rating/9 share in Nielsen and 2.1 rating/9 share in Arbitron.
    "The Sally Jessy Raphael Show" at 10 a.m. also wins its time period, posting a 6.4 rating/25 share in Nielsen and a 6.0 rating/25 share in Arbitron.
    In the noon news race, "Eyewitness News at Noon" places second in both services, posting a 3.9 rating/14 share in Nielsen and a 4.3 rating/17 share in Arbitron.  WCBS-TV's six-year-old "Channel 2 News at Noon" delivers a 6.1 rating/22 share in Nielsen and a 5.9 rating/23 share in Arbitron, while WNYW-TV's "Fox News at Noon" shows a 2.2 rating/8 share in Nielsen and a 1.9 rating/8 share in Arbitron.
    "Oprah Winfrey" continues to lead in early fringe with an 8.5 rating/24 share in Nielsen and an 8.0 rating/23 share in Arbitron. WCBS-TV's "Geraldo" posts a 5.0 rating/14 share in Nielsen and a 4.7 rating/14 share in Arbitron, while WNBC-TV's "Donahue" also delivers a 5.0 rating/14 share in Nielsen and a 4.8 rating/14 share in Arbitron. At 3 p.m., WNBC-TV's "Maury Povich" achieves a 5.8 rating/18 share in Nielsen and a 5.4 rating/18 share in Arbitron.
    "Eyewitness News" at 5 p.m. remains the time period's most viewed newscast.  Anchored by Greg Hurst and Roz Abrams, "Eyewitness News" delivers an 8.4 rating/21 share in Nielsen and an 8.0 rating/20 share in Arbitron.  "Channel 2 News-5" on WCBS-TV finishes third with a 4.6 rating/11 share in Nielsen and a 4.8 rating/12 share in Arbitron, while WNBC-TV's "News 4 NY at 5" places second with a 5.0 rating/13 share in Nielsen and a 5.7 rating/14 share in Arbitron.
    The winner in the 6 p.m. news race is "Eyewitness News."  Anchored by Bill Beutel, this newscast commands an impressive lead over the competition and delivers an 8.7 rating/20 share in Nielsen and a 9.2 rating/21 share in Arbitron.  WCBS-TV's "Channel 2 News" shows a 5.5 rating/13 share in Nielsen and a 4.8 rating/11 share in Arbitron, while WNBC-TV's "News 4 New York" delivers a 4.7 rating/11 share in Nielsen and a 6.1 rating/14 share in Arbitron.
    At 6:30 p.m., "ABC World News Tonight" with Peter Jennings continues to dominate the network news race with a 10.0 rating/22 share in Nielsen and a 9.7 rating/22 share in Arbitron.  "CBS Evening News" delivers a 5.0 rating/11 share in Nielsen and a 4.7 rating/11 share in Arbitron, while "NBC Nightly News" scores a 4.7 rating/10 share in Nielsen and a 5.5 rating/12 share in Arbitron.
    WABC-TV is the top rated station during the 6-7 p.m. news hour, delivering a 9.4 rating/21 share in Nielsen and a 9.5 rating/22 share in Arbitron.  This compares to WCBS-TV's 5.3 rating/12 share in Nielsen and 4.7 rating/11 share in Arbitron, and WNBC-TV's 4.7 rating/11 share in Nielsen and 5.8 rating/13 share in Arbitron.
    "Jeopardy" and "Wheel of Fortune" are the uncontested leaders in access, each showing a tremendous advantage over "Hard Copy" and "Entertainment Tonight" on WCBS-TV and "Cops" and "Love Connection" on WNBC-TV.  In Nielsen, "Jeopardy" delivers a 14.3 rating/29 share, while "Wheel" posts a 14.0 rating/28 share.  In Arbitron, "Jeopardy" posts a 13.6 rating/29 share and "Wheel" achieves a 12.7 rating/26 share.
    WABC-TV leads in prime time with a 9.2 rating/17 share in Nielsen and a 9.1 rating/17 share in Arbitron.  WCBS-TV finishes with a 7.4 rating/14 share in Nielsen and a 7.6 rating/14 share in Arbitron, while WNBC-TV delivers a 7.6 rating/14 share in Nielsen and a 7.2 rating/13 share in Arbitron.
    At 11 p.m., WABC-TV's "Eyewitness News" with Bill Beutel and Diana Williams wins with a 9.9 rating/20 share in Nielsen and a 10.5 rating/21 share in Arbitron.  WCBS-TV's "Channel 2 News" ranks third in both services, posting a 6.4 rating/13 share in Nielsen and a 5.2 rating/10 share in Arbitron, while WNBC-TV's second place "News 4 New York" delivers a 7.6 rating/16 share in Nielsen and a 8.1 rating/16 share in Arbitron.
