W. R. BERKLEY ANNOUNCES RESIGNATION OF PRESIDENT

 GREENWICH, Conn., Sept. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- W. R. Berkley Corporation (NASDAQ: BKLY) announced today that Robert V. Mendelsohn, 47, has submitted his resignation as president of the company effective at year-end. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer William R. Berkley will assume the title of president at that time.
 Mr. Berkley stated, "Bob has been an invaluable partner for almost 20 years. He has made an enormous contribution to the company during that period of time and we are sorry that he has decided to leave. It is Bob's desire to run his own operation and it is clear that he has the ability to do so. We all wish him the best and are confident in his future success."
